Meet Our Founder.
Dr. Benjamin F. Gilbert III
Dr. Benjamin F. Gilbert III has been practicing in the Wilmington area for over 12 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in implant biology from Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he was active in student government, the pre-professionals club, and intramural sports, winning three football championships. He attended Howard University College of Dentistry, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and was involved in various leadership roles.
A Letter to the Community
Professionally, I founded Family Dental Center with a desire to change the way people feel about the dentist and empower dentistry. Let’s face it: People are not excited about visiting the dentist, and as the industry becomes more corporate, the personal touch of a healthcare is lost.
At Family Dental Center, the focus is on elevating the patient experience through a comfort-centric approach. My vision focuses on a practice that is a friendly, welcoming and familiar place for people to receive care. To reflect that, the offices embody the unique characteristics of the Greater Wilmington neighborhood they are a part of.
At every turn, Family Dental Center is innovating! I wanted to start a family practice that is at the forefront of general and cosmetic dentistry. At Family Dental Center, we utilize the highest level of technology, and I am always looking for ways to improve our services and quality of care.
I wanted to establish Family Dental Center as more than a place to get a perfect smile. In addition to fixing smiles, we empower patients to feel better about themselves, encouraging them to take care of themselves and live a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the focus is on empowering my staff and patients to be their best. It is important to me that the environment at Family Dental Center is inclusive and welcoming for everyone to experience the comfort and excellence of our care.

Dr. Jinyu Sun is a dedicated and compassionate dentist who is passionate about helping patients achieve healthy, confident, and beautiful smiles. Known for his gentle touch and attention to detail, Dr. Sun creates a comfortable, stress-free experience for every patient, from routine visits to complex procedures.
With advanced training in cosmetic dentistry and same-day emergency care, Dr. Sun is able to diagnose, treat, and restore dental issues efficiently, often in a single visit. Whether it’s relieving pain, restoring function, or enhancing aesthetics, he is committed to delivering high-quality results with precision and care.
Dr. Sun earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and completed advanced residency training at Temple University, where he later served as a full-time faculty member. His background in teaching and clinical training allows him to stay at the forefront of modern dentistry and provide patients with the latest techniques and technologies.
He offers comprehensive services including dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, and emergency care, and is especially experienced in managing complex cases with a calm and confident approach.
Dr. Sun believes in treating every patient like family, taking the time to listen, explain, and develop personalized treatment plans that support long term oral health and overall, well-being.
Dr. Sun and his family have called Delaware home since 2022. His wife, who is also a dentist, and their daughter are proud to be part of the local community. Outside the office, Dr. Sun enjoys playing the piano, reading, and traveling.
